The Occupational Safety and Health Week 2007 will take place from 22 to 26 October. This week, the week deals with the causes of physical stress symptoms such as pain in the back, neck and shoulders.

 

The highlight of the week is the conference Moderate stress is the best health that deals with the prevention of physical stress symptoms. The conference will be at the Grand Hotel on October 23 at 13.00 - 16.00, it is open to everyone and admission is free. Other events during the occupational safety week include:

 

  • Inspectors from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration visit selected workplaces and the focus will be on shops and transport and warehousing companies. A poster and a booklet with a checklist on physical activity will be distributed.

 

  • Recognitions will be given to exemplary companies that have systematically worked on measures against physical stress symptoms, such as a risk assessment and a prevention plan.

 

  • A number of larger companies have been sent a poster and a list of ideas for actions to support during the occupational safety week.

 

  • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration encourages employers and employees to take an active part in the Occupational Safety and Health Week. Educational material and ideas can be downloaded from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's website, www.vinnueftirlit.is , a list of ideas for workplaces.

 

  • The social partners will present the Occupational Safety and Health Week and encourage employers and employees to do good work this week.

 

  • A letter of encouragement for participation was sent to target groups and designers of workplaces to emphasize the importance of their work from an occupational safety and health perspective.

 

  • The employees of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will give educational lectures and write newspaper articles that will be published this week.

 

  • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration encourages everyone to familiarize themselves with the website of the Occupational Safety and Health Week.
